Summer Camp
From Hiking to Horses
 Summer Camp includes the traditional camping experience for boys and girls from 1st through 12th grades through a variety of programs tailored to the appropriate age group. There are several leadership training programs for grades 9 through 12 and several "specialty camps" including horse camp and art camp. Summer camp is operated in the month of July and the first week of August.
At the Wenatchee Valley YMCA we have believed for 91 years that character counts, character development starts at an early age and continues throughout our lives, and the development of character begins with teaching of Christian values. The values we emphasize are those shared by people from many cultures, faiths, and belief systems. They are the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We believe that the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp offers unique opportunities for the development of character in youth.
We offer several types of summer camps including traditional camps, teen leadership camps and specialty camps like our very popular horse camp. MINI CAMP
 This four-day program is designed with extra-special care for younger campers. Children who are not ready for six days away at camp will enjoy this special four-day/three-night program. This program gives each child a preview of what camp has to offer in a nurturing and caring environment. Each cabin group of no more than 6 campers participates in campfires, crafts, waterfront activities, cabin devotions, hikes, evening activities and a whole lot more. DISCOVERY CAMP
 Building on past experience, or for a first time camper who is ready for a week away from home, Discovery Camp has something for everyone. Activities will include archery, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking local trails, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, daily chapels, and zany campfire skits and songs. Discovery campers may also spend one day and night out of camp, cook their own dinner and breakfast, and sleep under the stars! This will be a week to remember!

DISCOVERY HORSE CAMP
During their week at camp, campers will ride camp bus to Lake Wenatchee State Park for 2 days of horse back riding. Each Horse Camper will get two days with two hours of trail rides and horsemanship instruction. Back at camp each camper will get to take part in all the traditional camp activities like, chapel, archery, swimming, canoeing and campfires.

DISCOVERY RAFT CAMP
 Campers will climb into a river raft and paddle their way down the upper Wenatchee River to a sandy beach we have reserved just for YMCA River Rafters. Campers will spend the night there; cook their own dinner and breakfast, roast marshmallows over a campfire, sleep under the stars and return the next day. A licensed outfitter guide and a certified lifeguard will accompany the group. Back in camp campers will participate in traditional camp activities like archery, group games, arts and crafts, and swimming and kayaking at the waterfront. All participants must be able to swim.

DISCOVERY ART CAMP
 Campers will join professional artist Terry Valdez for two hours a day as he helps them to explore their world through a variety of 2 and 3 dimensional projects using natural materials. Art campers will focus on developing their art skills while also participating in traditional camping activities such as chapel, swimming, archery, canoeing and campfires. At the end of the camp session art campers will have their art put on display in an art show for campers and parents.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (LDP)
(2 weeks, for those entering grades 9-10)
Our most experienced staff members direct this leadership program. Their role is to guide each participant’s personal development and instill positive leadership values. Program participants receive an evaluation after each practical experience. Leadership program participants take part in low ropes challenge activities, overnight trips and leadership workshops. They will work with the younger campers, help to organize camp activities, work with camp staff and complete service projects. Over the course of two weeks, campers will receive training and practical experience in all areas of camp operations and programming. LDP campers will learn new skills and apply them around camp, in the kitchen, dining hall, maintenance area, program areas and in cabin groups. LDP campers will go home between weeks from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

EXPLORER CAMPS
Explorer Camp is a unique program for young people entering grades 7-9. Through a variety of safe, well-planned off-site trips, campers have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and their place in the world. The highlight of the week is a two night overnight excursion off camp property. Participants will sleep under the stars or in a tent and learn to cook a meal over a campfire. Campers may select the session that matches their interests.
A commitment to our Mission… Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp is proud to be continuing our partnership with Youth Dynamics to bring you high quality, mission driven teen camping programs in 2010. We feel that the Youth Dynamics mission: “to invite and challenge youth to a lifelong journey in relationship with Christ and His church”, fits closely with our own mission. Through this partnership, we are able to enhance programs like our Horse, Kayak, and Rock and Roll camps. These experiences will take campers into the outdoors and challenge them physically, emotionally and spiritually.
EXPLORER ROCK AND ROLL CAMP
We again will team up with the staff of Youth Dynamics to offer this special three day, two night trip consisting of a day of rock climbing and a day of whitewater rafting that will take you to a place you will never forget. The power of this trip lies not only in its ability to draw a group together, but also to give participants the confidence to step out and face life's challenges head on. While in camp, campers will take part in all the traditional camp activities like, chapel, archery, swimming, canoeing and campfires. All participants must be able to swim.

EXPLORER HORSE CAMP
 Campers will spend three days, and two nights riding, camping with, and learning what it is like to care for their own horse. Each Camper will be assigned their own horse Tuesday afternoon as we head out for a two-night excursion into the woods. Under the direction of our experienced counselors and wranglers from Youth Dynamics, your campers will campout under the stars, learn how to cook their own meals, make camp and care for their horse until we return Thursday afternoon.

EXPLORER HIKE CAMP
 Come spend a week making new friends as you explore the great outdoors. The week will consist of a 3 day, 2 night hiking trip into the Wenatchee National Forest. Our destination is Spider Meadow a hike, that will take campers on 5 miles of trail with gentle grades to gaining only 1000 feet of elevation. Once they arrive, campers will learn how to cook their own meals, make camp and explore their beautiful surroundings. While in camp, campers will take part in all the traditional camp activities like, chapel, archery, swimming, canoeing and campfires. This program is supported by the Don and Thea Fager Endowment Fund.

EXPLORER RIVER KAYAK CAMP
 Campers will climb into kayaks for this three day, two night excursion down the scenic and exciting upper Wenatchee River. Youth Dynamics certified outfitter guides and a certified lifeguard will accompany the group. Each camper will spend approx 2.5 days paddling their way down the river. Kayak Campers will campout each night at the Stonewater Ranch in Plain. While in camp, campers will take part in all the traditional camp activities like, chapel, archery, swimming, canoeing and campfires. All participants must be able to swim.
