Summer Employment

What We’re Looking For...

We are looking for mature staff members to role model healthy living and the YMCA’s four character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.  We expect our staff to have a genuine liking for youth and a character that fits our camp values.

Camp is for people who love working with kids and roughing it in the outdoors.  The ideal staff member enjoys hiking, camping, and cooking over a fire.  They don’t mind becomeng a human paint canvas, nor do they mind the insects or rodents, and can survive without a shower everyday.  Staff must feel comfortable working as a part of a team, have the desire to pitch in when needed and stay positive throughout these experiences.  The staff must be able to uphold the standards and policies and be willing to live in an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free living environment.  This will be a challenging and rewarding summer job experience!

What to Expect At Camp...

Cabin Leaders live in cabins with 5-8 campers, and spend much of their day with that group.  Throughout each one-week session, cabin leaders act as friends, teachers, and role models for campers and have unbelievable opportunities to have a positive impact on campers’ lives.  During their time as program staff, cabin leaders will assist with cabins where possible, as well as running one of the program areas in camp, which may include lifeguarding, archery, or working in the kitchen.  All staff members work six days each week, with a break from Friday evening until Sunday morning. Each day staff will have scheduled time off and our goal is to give each person 2 hours each day.

The Camp Facilities and Site...

Camp is a rustic living environment, with several modern conveniences.  Most cabins sleep 8 people and have electric lights.  While all cabins have windows and doors, small critters will likely visit from time to time.  Showers and restrooms are centrally located in our main lodge with additional Showers and restrooms located in the Outdoor Environmental Education Building.  Camp has a somewhat rugged and hilly terrain, with temperatures in the summer ranging from 40 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

Our Summer Schedule...

Our summer begins with a full week of staff training starting June 20, 2008.  Camp sessions run from June 30, 2008 through August 1, 2008.    Opportunities are available for those staff members interested in working at camp from mid-June through the end of August and beyond.
