Azwell Lodge

Azwell Lodge was built in 1949 and was the first permanent structure at the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp. The Lodge was funded by Mr. A. Z. Wells and designed by Mr. Joe B. Wood. Camp Caretaker, Mr. Elmer Smith, constructed a one man saw mill near Fish Lake. He and his wife, felled, dragged, and cut lodge pole pine from the camp property into two by fours that were used for the siding of the Lodge. Azwell Lodge was renovated in 2008 with funds contributed by the Community Foundation of North Central Washington and Mr. Larry Handy. Mr. Handy was General Secretary of the Wenatchee YMCA from 1947 to 1966 and spearheaded the development of the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp. Mr. Handy's contribution was made in honor of Mr. Elmer Smith.
