The Tertsagian Cabin Story
As an immigrant in the early 1900's Armen Tertsagian's first home in America was the Seattle YMCA, where he met his lifelong buisiness partener, Mark Belaban. The two enterprising young Armenians moved to Cashmere and started Liberty Orchards Company, makers of Aplets & Cotlets. They also founded Northwest Evaporationg, which developed a process for fruit dehydration, and Wenatchee Valley Foods, which canned the peaches and pears of the valley.
Armen was deeply grateful to the YMCA for providing shelter when he first arrived in Seattle. He became an active supporter of the Wenatchee YMCA, and later was instrumental in saving the YMCA during the depression when foreclosure was threatened. He served as President of the YMCA Board in 1944 and was dedicated to the Lake Weantchee YMCA Camp, donating the funds to build Tertsagian Cabin in 1952.
in 2003, after 50 years of housing campers the cabin was in need of repiar and restoration. The descendants of Armen and Eliza Tertsagian offered to fund the project which was completed in 2004.
