Mary Woods – Cabin
Mary Woods was an early resident of Wenatchee who dedicated 60 years of her life to her community. She moved to Wenatchee in 1909, the same year she marries Rufus Woods, publisher of the Daily World newspaper. Together they had three children Willa, Wilfred, and Kathryn. Mary’s primary community focus was her church, where she was an active member throughout her life. Later in life, Mary and her sister, Eva Anderson, embarked on a series of world-wide travels which were published in the Daily World newspaper and later reprinted in booklet form.
Mary Woods became involved with the Wenatchee Valley YMCA in the early 1950’s and served on its Board of Directors and numerous committees from 1952-1957. In 1964 she was the recipient of the YMCA’s Pioneer Award for long and meritorious service to youth. In 1959 she provided funds for the construction of Mary Woods cabin at Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp. A renovation of the Mary Woods cabin was funded by her son and grandson, Wilfred and Rufus G. Woods, in 2006.
