About Us

Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp Staff

A well-trained, enthusiastic staff is the key to a positive camping experience for your child. YMCA Camp staff members are dedicated to providing a safe and wholesome environment for each camper. Camp counselors are chosen for their maturity, strong values, enthusiasm and ability to be positive role models for children. All staff members undergo extensive 8 day training prior to the camp season, emphasizing safety, child growth and development, group dynamics, and much more. Criminal history and reference checks are completed on all staff and volunteers.  The entire staff is certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, certified lifeguards supervise all aquatic activities, our Camp Director is a certified EMT, and our camp nurse lives in camp and is available 24-hours a day. Our staff to camper ratio is 1:5 for Mini Camp and 1:7 for all other camps.  Every child's saftey and well being is our primary concern.  Please view our YMCA Child Safety Policy

Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp is a great place to work. If you are interested in this great opportunity, please visit our Summer Employment page.

Tim McElravy – Camping Services Director
Tim brings 12 years of YMCA experience to the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp and is responsible for the overall programming and operation of the camp.  Tim has been with the Wenatchee Valley YMCA since March of 2002 and previously has held numerous positions in the YMCA of Snohomish County.  Tim is a purple ragger and a mesmerizing storyteller around the campfire.  Tim lives on-site year round with his wife Pam, (a silver ragger with much YMCA experience herself), and two sons, Devan (8), and Austin (5).  In his spare time Tim also volunteers as youth baseball coach, as a room dad in his son’s school, as an EMT with Cascade Medical Center, and as a Firefighter with CCFD#9.  The family enjoys camping, hiking and mushing sled dogs in the winter.

Jim Shanahan - Camp Maintenance Manager
Jim was born and raised in northeast Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor's degree in computer science.  He got his first dose of the Pacific Northwest volunteering for the Student Conservation Association with the forest service in the Frank Church Wilderness, Idaho.  Later Jim returned east pursuing a master's degree, and became a web programmer in Washington, DC, but after three years, couldn't shake the west coast.  Since then, he has worked seasonally putting in 6 summers of trail work and 7 winters of lift operating.  In the summer, Jim led teens in the SCA Urban Youth Corps on the Potomac River, Maryland, and in the Northwest Youth Corps all over eastern Oregon and Washington.  More recently, Jim was a trail boss for the Skykomish Ranger Station, coordinating volunteer work parties on the Iron Goat Trail.  During the winter, Jim worked in the ski resort industry, starting as a novice lift operator at White Pass, to Night Lift Supervisor at Stevens Pass, to Lift Operations Manager at Mission Ridge.  Jim is also a certified Wilderness First Responder. Jim's recreations include trial running, building new things, fixing old things, and telemarking (no, not telemark-et-ing, tele-mark-ing –with skis.)
